Depressingly, there's nothing for me to index here. For which I also bear responsibility, seeing as I haven't written a word of anything all week, but : it's still sad. Is it just that everyone's busy? No longer interested? Fervently scribbling their next epic instead?

Maybe this would be a good time for a 'feedback on the community' thread ... Is there something we could be doing differently? What would make you want to be more involved? Write more, request more, pimp the community to your friends? Talk to me, people! I'd prefer to see thing sin comments, so we can get a discussion going, but if there's something on your mind that you're not comfortable posting in public, you can email me at ephemera_tales @ livejournal.com and / or one of the other mods as listed below.

Speaking only for myself:

I seem to be either full of creativity or tapped out, most of which is in direct correlation to work. lol. But, I also find a few obstacles along th way:

-Too specific requests. I know the community is designed to get the requestee a ficlet they want but there are times I look at the request and think: 'ok, yeah. can't get all that in there'.

-extras.... I'm lousy with who all these peripheral people are... Wade, Rick, etc. and we've been getting a fair amount of those.

All in all I love the community and try to participate regularly. If you're looking for more activity maybe have some 'play alongs'? Theme weeks or something? I was a lot of help there, I know. lol.

I know I'm guilty both for asking for and for not-feeling-able-to-write some of the non-core people ;)

A lot of what KC says goes for me too. If a request is very specific I tend to skim over it. I don't mean those with only a few elements wanted but the ones where the story is almost written in the request.

Also, pairing names. I can't throw stones about this as I use pairing names for Nsync all the time, but sometimes I see a BSB request with a pairing name which I really can't work out. Though this isn't really such an important point as if you don't know the pairing name maybe you don't know enough about the pairing to do the request justice.

I do like this comm a lot and love that it became more active. I especially love that you started to do this recap allowing people to see what had been written the week before. I'm trying to think how to get more activity but am pulling a blank just now, but what I can do is request/write more myself, which I'm going to try and do.

oh, yes! The pairing names!! I don't know what most of the Backstreet ones are and would skip those right off because of it. A post of the pairing names that was tagged for easy refrence would be grand!

If you're still looking, I've seen SweetBone around for AJ/Howie occasionally. And SweetKaos for Howie/Nick. Howie/Brian seems to either go by D-Rok or SweetRok. Then there's KeviNick for Kevin/Nick, BriNick for Brian/Nick, and I've seen BoneRok for AJ/Brian as well.

Man, I've been really bad at participating around here as well. I'll have to try and do better.

I was having fun trying to remember all the pairing names, but that's a good point - if you din't recognise it maybe you shouldn't be writing it ...

I find that the best requests are just specific enough to spark something (eg "snark, coffee and underwear"), because a generic "this pairing please" doesn't give me any ideas.

How about general discussion threads? Comments On The Week, or something like that - but not directly related to the weekly updates. At the moment, comments are always in response to a particular request (except it be a mod thread like this), but maybe an opportunity to comment on trends within the community, or something a reader had overlooked the first time and thought was good, or what not..? I mean, if someone were to post that sie'd been looking through the back-catalogue and found a couple of ficlets that sie hadn't expected to like but really enjoyed, it might prod other people into going back and reading, and maybe spark off some more interest in writing and/or requesting stories. Or, a discussion on what kind of requests people find it easiest to respond to!

I'll have a look at the list and see if I can find inspiration. Was rather busy last week, and also I have about three stories in progress which are making me feel quite guilty already!

I can see that - I quite like laundry list challenges, both to write and to read, seeing as you never know what you might get in responce, but other people I know prefer to start from a pairing ...

Maybe we could make a discussion thread part of the regular weekly post? Solicit fb on older stories? Hmm - I'll ask the other mods and see what they think - it's an idea, certainly.

Real life does tend to get in the way rather - and yay! stories! [also - I love your pantheon request - even if soeone else gets there first I might try my hand, because it's just so *nifty*]

Oh! I also meant to mention that I've seen a lot of people replying to the original post with feedback on a ficlet instead of the ficlet comment itself. Authors won't know they're getting feedback that way and readers leaving feedback will also think they're being ignored when authors don't reply with a thank you. Maybe a gentle reminder?

I've tried to do my part this week, because I would hate to see this community go away. For me, it's just been a matter of being busy and just life in general - but I'm starting to get back into the swing of writing and this community and the requests have helped me to do that. I agree with a lot of the suggestions already posted, the biggest reason I would pass over a request would be just the pairing. I don't know anything about BSB so would never attempt to write them or any of those other peripheral people...I only know Nsync, so in that vein I stick to what I know....

Anyway...
