One really should know how to flirt before one attempts to write it. Am I even close?

Nick studied as little as humanly possible. His parents had always told him he wasn’t too bright and that with a face as pretty as his, he wouldn’t need to be. Kevin felt otherwise though and it was usually he who sentenced Nick to more study time when Jane was trying to get him to practice more.

Brian, though, made it all bearable. Nick had a crush on Brian from the moment he showed up. Brian was all goofy grins and stupid jokes and basketball. Nick wanted to be just like him when he grew up.

He was infinitely grateful that Kevin often deemed Brian ‘proper’ supervision for a study session.

“So, young man, what are you studying today?” Brian was using his best ‘stern father’ voice, coincidentally a dead on impression of Kevin.

Nick giggled and then blushed. Truth was he was studying reproduction. “Sex!” He tried to make it sound suave and smooth. The way it did when he asked AJ what he’d been up to the night before and that was the answer. Nick figured his squeak probably gave it away though.

One of the coolest things about Brian was that he didn’t actually enjoy other people’s embarrassment. “Oh, really?” Brian wiggled his eyes in a comically suggestive way. “And what have you learned so far?”

Nick puffed out his chest, “I didn’t learn anything! I’m making notes, so they can improve the next edition.”

Brian leaned in. “Well, well. It seems we have an expert in our midst. Gonna’ share you secrets?”

Nick tried to ignore the way Brian’s knee was now brushing up against his own. “Nah. You’re gonna’ have to by the book.”

“I’m wounded!” Brian put on a pout and cropped his head to Nick’s shoulder. Nick sat perfectly still until Brian popped his head back up and then the rest of him. “Ok, Frak. I’m going to shoot some hoops, buckle down so you can come play?”

Nick nodded, his long hair bobbing along with the movement.

Three days later it was math and AJ was insisting that algebra was a cruel joke. Nick was inclined to agree with him, but he really needed to know this stuff. His tutor was testing him on it later in the week. He was pacing his hotel, mumbling formulas under his breath and bits of their songs woven in.

“Nick! What are you doing?”

“Filling the few brain cells not full of choreography with algebra?”

“Oh, now. We can’t have that. Besides, I need help with said choreography. How about you walk through some of it with me and I’ll help you out with your algebra?”

Nick looked at his math book and back at Brian. It was no contest. “What song?”

Brian smiled and hummed a few measure from Get Down.

“Dude you never get this one!”

Nick spent a half hour posing Brian’s hips and getting bumped into as Brian messed up turn after turn. He failed his algebra test.

Brian instigated a tickle fight during a ‘cram session’ for American History. Nick was giggling while he held Brian’s hands away from his rib cage, his face bright red, smile wide. Brian watched him in amusement, his own face covered in a huge grin.

“Nick! Are you studying in there?” Jane called from the other room.

Nick sighed and sagged against Brian.

Brian kissed the top of his head swiftly. “Playtime’s over, hunh?”

Nick nodded.

“Ok. Do your schoolwork. I’ll leave you alone.” Brian made a final drive at Nick’s sides, walking out with both of them in renewed giggles. Kevin greeted him in the hall.

“What are you doing, cous’?”

“Just having some fun, Kevin. You’ve heard of it?”

Kevin just continued to glare at him. “You’re not flirting with him are you?”

Brian stared at the floor.

“He’s 16 Brian!”

“Brian!”

“I’m just biding my time, Kevin. He won’t be 16 forever.”

Kevin watched as Brian wandered off to his own room, humming under his breath.

Behind his door, Nick picked up his history book and started to study in earnest.

He smiled as he read.

lol, good! I still don't know if I think it was actual flirting or not. I do like Kevin going all paternal and Brian fliinging it right back at him though.

That list man. Haunts me.
