Because I've had this line stuck in my head for days now with no idea who says it or why or when : something which begins with the line "It was almost a relief when someone finally said something" or words to that effect, please.

He is, indeed, and I can't help but believe it was the willingness to work that made the difference between them. (Don't you just love it when your *own* fic turns into 'yep, that's how it was'!)
