I've got a lot of details for this one.

JC/Chris.... with their little girl (age somewhere between 5 and 8). A trip to the zoo to see the penguins.

Not required, but definite bonus kudos if there's animal shaped balloons (tied creativly to Chris to keep them from floating away), both of them holding one of her hands to "swing" her as she walks between them, cotton candy being purchased and/or eaten and the little girl wearing pink converse sneakers and a shirt with a "witty" saying on it (but not as crude/witty as some of the shirts that Joey and Chris wear)

"Dada," Katie whined, tugging at JC's hand and dragging her feet. "I wan' cotton candy, Dada."

"No, sweetie. We just had our lunch," JC replied patiently, for the five hundredth time in the last two minutes. "And we'll miss the penguins' feeding time if we go back. You want to see the penguins, right?"

"I wan' cotton candy an' penguins."

JC took a calming breath. He loved his daughter beyond words, but sometimes she could chew on his last nerve like no one else. Well, no one else but Chris, who'd vanished off into the crowd some time ago with a cheerful 'see you at the penguin house'. Looking behind him, JC caught their body guard's eye. Leo grinned back at him with a 'not my problem, buddy' expression. Leo had two kids, both older than Katie, and took far more pleasure than was strictly appropriate in JC's occasional parenting issues.

"You can't have both, Katie-cakes. Maybe we can get cotton candy after - c'mon. How about a piggy-back ride down to the penguin house?"

"Yay, ride!" Katie's five your old face lit up, and JC was daily grateful that it was still so easy to distract her. He crouched down, and she scrambled up onto his back, the rubber toe-caps of her little pink sneakers dragging on the bare skin of his arms for a second, and then she was settled, a warm, heavy, wriggling load. "Giddy-up, Dada!"

He stood up, careful of her shifting weight, and then bounced on the spot for a second, enjoying her giggles, before heading off towards the penguin house. They'd been wandering round the zoo at Katie-leg-speed all day and it felt good to finally be able to take a full stride.

The crowd got thicker around the entrance to the Antarctic House, and Katie seemed happy enough to watch feeding time from a vantage point that put her above the heads of so many other people, so JC satisfied himself with looking at the back of someone else's head and the enthusiastic commentating of his daughter.

When the two keepers help up their empty buckets and took their bow, though, and the crowds started to thin, Katie was eager to get down and go and explore the exhibit.

"Hold up, Katie-cakes - I need you to do me a favour, while you're being all tall. Can you see your pops from up there?"

"I don't see -- Oh! Pops!"

Katie jiggled enthusiastically, and JC turned to keep her from wriggling right off as she waved. He managed to hang onto her long enough for Chris to be within a safe radius for Katie to run across and fling herself at her pops. Chris swooped her up and spun her round, and Katie's laughter made JC grin. His two favourite people in the whole world being happy - sometimes life is good.

"Hey, 'pops'" JC said with a wave as Chris and Katie came back over. Chris had a penguin-shaped balloon bobbing behind him, which Katie didn't seem to have even noticed yet. It seemed to be tied to his cap, because Chris never did seem to worry about people looking at him. "You do whatever it is you needed to do?"

"Yup - and I come back bearing presents."

"Presents!" Katie cried, and JC shook his head at Chris. He was determined to raise his little girl without spoiling her, but it was a loosing battle some days. He could practically feel Leo smirking.

"Yup - presents. I got one for you and one for your dada - do you want to give him his present?"

"Cool," Katie said, and Chris gave her a high-five before pulling a rattling tin out of his messenger bag.

JC crouched down so that he was face-to-face with his daughter as she announced 'you have a present'. He held out one hand, and she dropped a tin of caffeinated penguin mints on to it.

"Thank you, Katie, and thank you Chris," JC said with a smile. He gave Katie a kiss on the cheek, and then turned his head so she could reciprocate. "You want to go see what your pops got for you?"

When Katie tuned around, Chris was crouched down too, and holding out a bright green t-shirt. She ran into his arms, and gave him a great big hug before demanding 'can I wear it now?'

"Sure you can, Katie-Kay. You want to read it first, though?"

"One fish, two fish, …" Katie read the familiar words and then spun round, finishing off the words without actually reading them. "Just like Uncle Lance's book!" Chris looked up at JC and winked.

"Good going Katie-K. You still want to wear it?" Katie nodded enthusiastically. "Okay - pop your arms up for me.

Katie did, and Chris worked the shirt down over her head, and her current pink 'no added sugar' vest. The new shirt came half way down her thighs, and JC finished reading the front print: one fish, two fish, red fish, blow fish, the last illustrated with a spiky cartoon puffa fish, with x's for eyes.

It was good to know Chris was never going to grow up all the way.
