Ooh, I've got one!!

Okay, Chris is hyperactive (in part) because he's hypoglycemic & keeps himself on a sugar high, right? Well, if there's any writers out there besides me who know how much NOT FUN hypoglycemia/diabetic low-blood sugar *IS*, I'd love to see a hurt/comfort or dramatic!fic where Chris suffers a low blood sugar attack. Honestly, considering the amount of energy they all burn (Chris especially) I'm just AMAZED it's never actually happened...

..Just means he takes good care of himself; Go, Chris!

Oh, and I'd love to see this as a TrickC, but whatever pairing or even gen-drama set-up works for you-the-author, y'know?

OK, try this on for size.

________
“Go away infant.” the snap was there, the set jaw. The irritated flick of his eyes.

“Yo, what is up with you today? You’re acting like Lance.” Justin continued to drum against the arm of the couch, eyes never leaving the TV.

Chris hissed in annoyance tossing the game boy on the floor hard enough to dislodge the batteries from the casing before standing, crumpled bags of Doritos and Twizzlers dropping from his lap. “You mean aside from a little bug who never sits still annoying the crap out of me?” his voice was sharp again and he kicked Justin’s feet out of the way as he passed in front of him.

“Dude. Chill.” Justin kicked back at his feet.

Chris tripped once before heading toward the back for some Tylenol. If he could just get the irritating buzz out of his head. Too bad the irritating buzz lived with him on the bus. He swallowed a few caplets with the flat coke that was on his bunk shelf. His brain seemed to do a slow lap around his skull as he tilted his head forward and back. He may have gasped and flailed to grab the rail, but he couldn’t quite keep track of his movements. He heard someone whisper and then yell his name. He thought it was his sister, well it would have been if she would have been on tour with him. He thought about how odd it was that Justin had gotten her voice dead on like that. Somehow he couldn’t remember how he ended up on the floor. He didn’t notice the tremors of his hands or the cold sweat that had sprung up on his forehead. He just heard muffled voices and felt like he was swimming in a deep pool of glue. Chris flailed his arms to try to stay afloat.

JC leaned in, his voice calm and soothing as he coaxed Chris to be quiet. “Justin, phone for the bus to stop and get doc. Chris, it’s ok. I’ve got you.” he smoothed a hand over Chris’ forehead, wiping away the moisture. “It’s JC, Chris.” a little relieved when glazed eyes seemed to try and focus.

“C?” Chris’ vision was all a big blur. “Need a floaty.” he slurred and leaned in to the big blob that was JC. He lay his head on the shoulder his forehead found.

“I’ll keep you up Chris, I won’t let you sink.” Chris had told them all once that when he got low blood sugar it seemed like he was drowning. JC felt the bus door open and heard Justin’s panicked voice talking to the doctor he hoped. Then he heard the other guys voices in a jumble. “Doctor’s here Chris, he’ll fix you up baby.” He ran his hand up and down Chris’ back.

“Don’t go.” he mumbled.

“No way am I going anywhere.” JC wasn’t either. He looked up as the doc came up to them. “He’s been feeling flu-ish for two days and he just fell. Lots of snack food today.”

The doctor opened his kit and checked Chris’ blood sugar. Within about fifteen minutes they had Chris on his bunk hooked up to an IV and given some medication for low blood sugar. JC lay down beside him on the bunk, whispering and petting the whole time. It took a few hours, four to be exact, before Chris was sleeping peacefully, not twitching in nightmares or drenched in cold sweat. Resting quietly and deeply in the circle of JC’s arms. He had fallen into sweet dreams accompanied by the soft humming of the man he was laying next to.

Sometime early the next morning Chris woke up. Clearer than he had been over the last day probably even day and a half. He stretched as much as he could under the heavy weight that covered him. Then settled back down sliding his hand along JC’s back and into his hair. He smiled as JC made a pleased sleepy sound against him. He made a vow to stay still as long as possible to enjoy the closeness. A vow which lasted for thirty minutes. Once the doctor came and checked him over again, stopped his IV and ordered him to eat healthy and no snacks for at least twenty four hours he was raring to go. Pausing to kiss JC on the forehead first he made a beeline for Justin’s bunk, then with a ear splitting scream launched himself onto the other man and tickled him awake.

JC smiled at the commotion, and went back to sleep.

hee hee, I'm glad you like it. I have nursing experience and real life experience behind me to add reality. I got so lost in doing that stuff that I almost forgot the JC/Chris-ness of it all.

It was a nice challenge.

I hope it is. Because they really should be used for something other than helping people stay alive! LOL.

nice encapsulation of the experience there, that's how my brother describes his few attacks. Of course, everybody else in the family is diabetic (exceptme, who somehow managed to escape both).

Liked the tenderness of JC in this as well.

Thank you. I loved writing it. I've only been hypoglycemic once myself. But it was something I don't want to experience again. Then I've dealt with a lot of patients with low blood sugar. I'm so happy everyone liked it.
