Trickyfish. In honor of my surgery--getting rid of that damned cist on the back of my hand--I'd like to see Chris go through the same thing. It'd make me feel so much better. :D

I slid my fingertips across the back of his hand tentatively. "So it's gone?"

"Yep." The relief in Chris's voice was clear. "It wasn't anything dangerous, but... I dunno. It was just funky. And I kept poking at it and stuff, which couldn't have been good for it, so..." His other hand moved over to clasp mine. "Nothin' major."

"I know, it's just... part of you gone. I don't like that."

He sounded heartily amused as he laughed at that, just as bright and ringing and beautiful as the first time I ever heard it so long ago. "It wasn't a piece of me! It was... a piece of space alien bacterial sludge or something that was gonna eat my hand! Least that's what you thought when you found it. And now you're gonna bitch?"

"Don't like people messin' with my Chris," I murmured, squeezing his hand tightly and curling into the covers, resting my head on his chest.

His breath slowed as his other arm wrapped tightly around my shoulders, cradling me close, just like always. "Nobody's messin' with your Chris," he breathed, kissing my forehead softly. "He's right here, and here's where he's gonna stay. Now go to sleep."

...and yeah, you actually SAID Trickyfish, didn't you? I didn't even spot that. But somehow, I was thinking Trickyfish when I wrote it anyway. So have fun. :D
