The waitress appears with their order and places it on the table before leaving them alone again. Chris has his mouth full of food when someone else approaches the table. He looks up, fully expecting it to be a fan. He's taken aback when it isn't. Instead he finds himself looking into a pair of angry brown eyes.
"Aaron."
The younger man doesn't say anything for a few minutes. "I wondered what made Nick quit laughing. I wondered who he could have possibly seen that caused him to walk out of here and leave me sitting at the table by myself. Then as I was paying the check, I spotted you." The fact that Aaron nearly spits the word you isn't lost on Chris, he'd always known that if something ever happened between him and Nick, that Aaron would naturally take his brother's side.
"I didn't even know you were here until I heard him laughing, Aaron. It's not like I came here to make him leave," Chris replies.
"You need to apologize to him Chris and then you need to beg him to forgive you. If he's stupid enough to forgive you and heaven knows he probably is, I'll have to apologize to you myself."
Chris is confused, "apologize to me? Why would you..." He's silenced when Aaron picks up JC's shake at that moment and dumps it over Chris' head.
By the time that Chris has shake out of his eyes, Aaron is gone and JC is sitting there laughing so hard his eyes are crinkled, a five dollar bill clutched in his fist.
"Little creep, you just wait til I get my hands on him," Chris mutters.
"He gave me five bucks to cover the shake." JC's laughter is still going strong.
"You suck."
JC just waves the hand holding the money in the air. "Yup and you still need to get over yourself and make up with your boyfriend. He was joking around and you know it. You're lucky that no one else has hunted your ass down. I'm thinking that Nick forbade them to do it. Now swallow your pride and go try to catch them before they leave the parking lot."
Chris sits there wiping shake off his face, ignoring the way that it feels slipping down the back of his neck. He winces when JC kicks him again. "I'm going, I'm going."
***
Nick's leaning against Aaron's truck when Chris walks out of the restaurant and into the parking lot. Dark glasses cover his eyes and the very sight of him makes Chris' mouth water. He ignores Aaron who is sitting in the truck, behind the steering wheel, and glaring at Chris.
Before Chris can speak, Nick does. "If we were home and you weren't being such a jerk, I'd offer to lick you clean."
The simple words and the thoughts running through Chris' mind are enough to make Chris want to drop to his knees and beg Nick to forgive him. "If I wasn't so stubborn, I'd let you."
Nick pushes away from the truck and stalks up to where Chris is standing. He runs a finger along the shake that still clings to Chris' neck then sticks his finger in his mouth, sucks it clean before removing his finger with an audible pop. "I couldn't believe you walked out on me. I thought you were playing around. I kept looking for you to walk back in and you never did."
"Nick."
Nick puts his finger over Chris' lips. "Don't. I'm sorry I pissed you off, Chris. I really wasn't calling you old or tiny or anything else. We were all just joking around. I honestly wasn't insulting you."
"I shouldn't have taken off like that."
"No, you shouldn't have."
"I should have come back that night and talked to you."
Nick laughs, "you're right, you should have. We both made mistakes, but I think we're both adult enough to admit it, aren't we?"
Chris pretends to think about that, then nods. "Does this mean I can come home?"
"Only if you forgive me for one more thing."
"What do I have to forgive you for, I was the one that was wrong."
"True, but I might have suggested to JC that he bring you hear to eat and I also might have suggested to Aaron that he dump the shake over your head."
"I never had a chance, did I?"
Once more the sound of Nick's laughter makes Chris look up. This time he doesn't try to hide.
I've just been up to take Brock out, he peed on me again, it's sleeting like crazy so I was freezing and wet, but you made me smile. For that I thank you.
This was lovely, and you're a star for tailoring it into something I'd like. JC and Chris eating together fills me with glee, and JC kicked him, with flipflops on *g*
There's no need to worry about the dialogue, I thought it was great. I could just see them bickering, and Chris sulking *g*
"And quite well, thank you." JC replies with a wink
Love that line!
I really liked Aaron defending his brother like that, almost as much as I liked Nick's sneaky plan. Though even that's eclipsed by this.
He runs a finger along the shake that still clings to Chris' neck then sticks his finger in his mouth, sucks it clean before removing his finger with an audible pop.
Oh my guh! I love those boys so much. I love this story so much.
I am so happy that you liked it. :) I know that a lot of people don't like stories that are mostly dialogue, so whenever I have a story go in that direction, I worry all the more. This just felt "right" for dialogue. In my mind I could picture JC and Chris sitting across from each other. I could see Chris being all sulky and trying to squish down in the seat and use the menu to hide. I could see JC being amused by Chris and still annoyed at him. I also can see JC being rather cocky about his "skills" and my first draft I had him saying that "quite well, thank you." and then following up with some comment about "do you want references?" or something like "Just ask Lance." But in the end, I decided to just stay with the one line.
For some reason I just can picture Aaron wanting to get some sort of revenge on Chris, even if he was a part of Nick's sneaky plan. I just see Aaron enjoying himself a little more than Nick intended.
Nick and sucking on his finger. hee. That visual image makes me go "Guh" and in my mind, I can imagine it just about bringing Chris to his knees. lol.
I'm happy with how this turned out. I'm even happier that you liked it. :) I'm sorry for all that is going on that is keeping you from smiling.
For no particular reason I'm looking back through this community, and can't believe I didn't leave a comment before to say how much I enjoyed this. I like mostly-dialogue when the dialogue works as well as this does.
*blushes* Thank you, Pen. I'm glad that you liked it. I know there's a lot of people that won't read a story if it's got a lot of dialogue to it. *shrugs* That's just the way it flowed for me for this one.
